Murmansk
Murmansk is a port city in northwest Russia, located above the Arctic Circle. It is notable for its strategic importance as a major ice-free port, enabling year-round maritime activity despite harsh Arctic conditions. The city plays a vital role in Russia’s military, shipping, and energy sectors, especially for goods and resources that are difficult to access elsewhere. Founded in 1916, Murmansk has a cold climate with long winters and Midnight Sun in summer. Its Arctic location also makes it a hub for scientific research and an example of Arctic regional development.
