Municipal wastewater treatment
Municipal wastewater treatment is the process of cleaning water that comes from homes and businesses before it’s released back into the environment. It involves three main stages: primary treatment removes large solids and debris through screening and sedimentation; secondary treatment uses biological processes with bacteria to break down organic matter; and, sometimes, tertiary treatment further polishes the water by removing specific pollutants and disinfecting it with chlorine or UV light. The goal is to protect public health and the environment by ensuring the water is safe and clean before returning to natural water bodies.
