Mungo Park

Mungo Park was a Scottish explorer in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, known for his journeys into Africa. He aimed to discover the course of the Niger River, a major waterway in West Africa. Despite facing many dangers like disease and difficult terrain, his explorations provided valuable geographic and cultural insights into the region. His work helped Europeans better understand parts of Africa that were largely unknown at the time. Park’s explorations contributed significantly to the field of African geography, though he tragically died in Africa during a later expedition.
