Multiple Sclerosis in Children
Multiple sclerosis (MS) in children is a chronic autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering (myelin) of nerve fibers in the central nervous system. This damage disrupts communication between the brain and the body, leading to symptoms like weakness, difficulty walking, numbness, vision problems, and coordination issues. Although less common than in adults, pediatric MS can affect a child's development and daily activities. The exact cause is unknown, but it involves genetic and environmental factors. While there is no cure, early diagnosis and treatment can help manage symptoms, slow progression, and improve quality of life.
