Multiple Jeopardy Theory
Multiple Jeopardy Theory suggests that individuals belonging to multiple marginalized groups experience compounded disadvantages, not just the sum of each bias separately. For example, a Black woman may face discrimination based on both race and gender, and these biases intersect to create a unique, intensified form of bias. This theory emphasizes that overlapping social identities can lead to complex forms of discrimination, which are not simply additive but interconnected, resulting in distinct challenges and impacts on a person’s experiences and opportunities.
