Multi-Member District

A Multi-Member District (MMD) is an electoral system where a single geographic area, like a city or region, elects multiple representatives to a legislative body. Instead of choosing just one person, voters select from several candidates, and the top-performing candidates win seats proportionally. This system can lead to more diverse representation, giving smaller or different political groups a better chance to be represented. It is often used in proportional representation systems, encouraging collaboration and a broader range of views in government, compared to single-member districts that elect just one representative.
