Mulberry Harbour

Mulberry Harbours were temporary, portable breakwaters used by Allied forces during World War II to rapidly establish safe harbor facilities after landing in enemy-controlled beaches, notably during D-Day. Constructed from prefabricated concrete sections, these modular structures protected landing vessels from the rough sea and allowed for the quick offloading of troops, vehicles, and supplies. Once established, they supported ongoing military operations until permanent port facilities could be built. Their innovative design played a crucial role in the success of the invasion, enabling the Allied forces to sustain their advance into occupied Europe.
