Mudejars
Mudejars were Muslim residents living under Christian rule in medieval Spain after the Reconquista, which ended Muslim political power in the Iberian Peninsula. Despite Christian dominance, they maintained their Islamic faith, customs, and cultural practices, often practicing their religion openly. They contributed significantly to Spain’s economy, arts, and architecture while navigating the complex social and religious dynamics of a predominantly Christian society. Mudejars played a key role in preserving Islamic heritage in Spain until they faced increasing restrictions and forced conversions in later centuries.
