Mu'tazilite school
The Mu'tazilite school is an Islamic theological movement that emerged in the 8th century, emphasizing reason and rational thought in understanding faith. They believed that human free will was essential, advocating that God's justice requires people to have the freedom to choose right or wrong. They also stressed the importance of divine justice, the unity of God, and the use of logic to interpret scripture. The Mu'tazilites challenged traditional views and sought to reconcile faith with rationality, influencing Islamic thought during the early Abbasid period, although their ideas eventually declined in prominence within mainstream Sunni Islam.
