MPS (Mucopolysaccharidosis)
Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a group of rare genetic disorders where the body lacks specific enzymes needed to break down complex sugars called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Normally, these sugars are processed and removed, but in MPS, they accumulate in cells, tissues, and organs over time. This buildup causes progressive damage, affecting physical features, joint mobility, and vital organs like the heart and brain. Symptoms and severity vary among different types of MPS. Early diagnosis and management can help improve quality of life, but currently, there is no cure for the condition.
