MPPDA (Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America)
The MPPDA, or Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, was an industry organization formed in 1922 to regulate and promote Hollywood films. It established guidelines called the Motion Picture Production Code (or Hays Code) to ensure movies adhered to moral standards, such as avoiding explicit content and promoting positive values. This self-regulation aimed to maintain public trust and prevent government censorship. The MPPDA also worked to promote the industry's image globally and coordinate between studios, helping shape the standards of American cinema during its early years.
