MPLA (People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola)
The MPLA, or People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola, is a political party in Angola, originally founded in 1956 as a liberation group fighting against Portuguese colonial rule. After Angola gained independence in 1975, the MPLA became the ruling party. It played a significant role in Angola's civil war, which lasted until 2002, opposing UNITA, a rival faction. The MPLA is known for promoting a socialist agenda and has focused on rebuilding the country in the years since the conflict. Today, it remains a dominant force in Angolan politics, influencing the nation's governance and development.
