MPF (Maturation Promoting Factor)
Maturation Promoting Factor (MPF) is a crucial protein complex that drives cells to progress from one phase of cell division to the next, specifically from the G2 phase to mitosis (cell division). It acts as a molecular switch, triggering the cell’s machinery to organize chromosomes and prepare for division. MPF is made up of an enzyme called CDK1 and a regulatory protein called cyclin B. When activated, MPF ensures the cell divides at the right time, helping maintain healthy growth and tissue function. Its regulation is essential for proper cell cycle control and normal development.
