Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR)

Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR) was a left-wing political organization in Chile, active mainly in the 1960s and 1970s. It aimed to promote social justice, equality, and revolutionary change through activism and, at times, armed struggle. MIR opposed authoritarianism and supported socialist ideals, often engaging in protests and guerrilla activities to challenge the existing government and promote reforms. Its influence waned after the military coup in 1973, which led to a harsh crackdown on leftist groups, including MIR. The organization played a significant role in Chile's political turbulence during that era.
