Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD)
The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) is a political party in Zambia that was formed in the early 1990s to promote democratic governance and multi-party politics. It emerged as a response to Zambia’s previous single-party rule, advocating for free elections, political pluralism, and accountability. Led by prominent leaders like Frederick Chiluba, the MMD played a key role in helping Zambia transition to a democratic system, ending decades of one-party dominance. Since then, it has been a major political force, shaping the country’s policies and governance through democratic processes.
