Mounting Media

Mounting media are transparent substances used in microscopy to preserve, support, and enhance the visibility of biological slides. They are applied between the specimen and the cover slip to keep the tissue or sample flat, protect it from damage, and improve image clarity by matching the refractive index of glass and the sample. Different mounting media can also contain preservatives to prevent mold and fading, ensuring long-term examination and storage of slides. They are essential in creating durable, clear, and stable slides for research, medical diagnosis, or educational purposes.
