Motya

Motya was an ancient Greek city located on the island of San Pantaleo off the northwest coast of Sicily. It flourished around the 8th to 6th centuries BCE as a significant trading hub, connecting Greek and local cultures. Known for its impressive fortifications and its role in Mediterranean trade, Motya featured an important port and thriving marketplace. The city was eventually destroyed or abandoned in the 4th century BCE, likely due to conflicts or natural disasters. Today, excavations at Motya reveal well-preserved ruins that offer valuable insights into early Greek colonization and regional interactions in the ancient Mediterranean.
