Motion for Judgment as a Matter of Law
A Motion for Judgment as a Matter of Law (JMOL) is a request made during a trial by one party, asking the judge to rule in their favor because the opposing party has not provided sufficient evidence to support their case. Essentially, it argues that no reasonable jury could find in favor of the other party based on the evidence presented. If granted, the judge effectively ends the trial for that issue, often resulting in a win for the requesting party without needing to hear further arguments or evidence from the other side.
