Motility assay

A motility assay is a laboratory test used to determine if bacteria or other microorganisms can move. In this test, a sample is placed in a special gel or broth that supports movement. If the microorganisms are motile, they will spread out from the initial spot over time, creating a cloudy or turbid area. If they are non-motile, the growth stays confined. This helps scientists identify types of microorganisms and understand their behavior, which is useful for diagnosing infections and studying microbial properties.
