Mother Road

The "Mother Road" is a nickname for the historic U.S. Route 66, one of the original highways in the U.S. Interstate system, established in 1926. It stretches approximately 2,400 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, California, serving as a major route for travelers heading west, especially during the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930s. Celebrated for its cultural significance, Route 66 symbolized freedom, adventure, and America's pioneering spirit. Although it was replaced by modern highways, many remnants and landmarks along the route preserve its nostalgic legacy as an iconic symbol of American road travel.
