Mossadegh's government

Mohammad Mosaddegh was Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister from 1951 to 1953. He aimed to reduce foreign influence, especially by nationalizing the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, which historically controlled Iran’s oil profits. This move raised concerns among Britain and the United States, fearing economic and strategic consequences. In 1953, a covert operation with Western support led to his overthrow in a coup, restoring the monarchy’s power under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Mosaddegh is remembered as a symbol of national sovereignty and resistance to foreign intervention in Iran.
