Mosquito-borne disease
Mosquito-borne diseases are illnesses transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. These diseases include malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, chikungunya, and West Nile virus. When a mosquito bites an infected person or animal, it picks up the pathogen, which then multiplies inside the mosquito. If the mosquito bites another person, it can transfer the pathogen, causing illness. These diseases can cause symptoms ranging from fever and headaches to severe complications or death. Preventative measures include using insect repellent, bed nets, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed. Public health efforts also focus on mosquito control and vaccination.
