Moses Sofer

Moses Sofer, also known as the Chatam Sofer, was a prominent Jewish scholar and rabbi in the 18th and 19th centuries. Born in 1762 in Frankfurt, Germany, he became a leading authority in Orthodox Judaism. Sofer is best known for his rigorous interpretation of Jewish law and his staunch opposition to reforms in Jewish practices, advocating for traditionalism. He founded the Orthodox Jewish community in Pressburg (now Bratislava, Slovakia) and emphasized the importance of transmitting religious teachings to future generations. His writings and teachings continue to influence Jewish thought and law today. Sofer passed away in 1839.
