Morandi Bridge
The Morandi Bridge, also known as the New Genoa Bridge, is a large, cable-stayed structure in Italy that spans the Polcevera River. Named after engineer Riccardo Morandi, it features tall pylons and diagonal cables supporting the roadway, combining aesthetic design with engineering efficiency. Opened in 1967, it was a vital transport link for Genoa. In 2018, a section of the bridge unexpectedly collapsed, causing fatalities and highlighting the importance of infrastructure maintenance and safety. The bridge was subsequently replaced with a new, modern structure to ensure safer, more reliable transportation for the region.
