moon bears

Moon bears, also known as Asiatic black bears, are medium-sized mammals native to Asia. Named for the distinctive crescent-shaped patch of white fur on their chest that resembles a moon, they have thick black fur and a short, often "moon-shaped" white mark. They are arboreal and omnivorous, feeding on fruits, insects, small animals, and honey. Typically solitary, they inhabit forests across countries like China, Korea, and parts of Russia. Unfortunately, they face threats from habitat loss and illegal hunting, especially for their bile and body parts used in traditional medicine, leading to their status as vulnerable in the wild.
