MONUC (United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo)

MONUC (United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo) was a peacekeeping effort established by the UN in 1999 to help stabilize the DRC amid ongoing conflict. Its mission involved supporting peace processes, protecting civilians, assisting in disarmament, and helping to rebuild government institutions. MONUC aimed to reduce violence, promote stability, and facilitate humanitarian aid in a country facing internal wars, regional tensions, and humanitarian crises. In 2010, it was succeeded by MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo), which continued these efforts with an expanded mandate.
