
Montrose (James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose)
James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, was a Scottish nobleman and military leader who lived from 1612 to 1650. He initially supported the Covenanters in the Scottish Wars of Religion but later switched sides to support King Charles I during the English Civil War. Montrose is best known for his brilliant and bold cavalry campaigns in Scotland, where he achieved several significant victories despite being often outnumbered. His actions were driven by loyalty to the monarchy and a desire to restore royalist power. He was eventually captured and executed by the Parliamentarians, becoming a legendary figure for his tactical skill and complex loyalties.
