Montréal Protocol

The Montreal Protocol is an international agreement adopted in 1987 to protect the Earth's ozone layer, which shields us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. It aims to phase out the production and use of substances called ozone-depleting chemicals, such as CFCs found in aerosols and refrigerants. By reducing these chemicals, the protocol helps prevent further deterioration of the ozone layer, allowing it to recover over time. The treaty has been successful, with most countries complying, resulting in significant environmental benefits and a decrease in ozone layer depletion worldwide.
