Montgomery Improvement Association
The Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA) was a civil rights organization formed in 1955 to coordinate the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a protest against racial segregation on city buses. Led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other community leaders, the MIA aimed to challenge unfair segregation laws and promote racial equality through nonviolent resistance. Their efforts successfully ended bus segregation, marking a significant step forward in the Civil Rights Movement and demonstrating the power of organized, peaceful protest to bring about social change.
