Montford Point Marines
Montford Point Marines were African Americans who trained and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1949, during a time when racial segregation policies prevented them from joining other Marine units. They trained at Montford Point in North Carolina, breaking racial barriers and proving their bravery and capability. Their service helped pave the way for integration in the military and highlighted the contributions of Black Americans to the nation's defense. In 2011, they received a Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of their historic sacrifices and service.
