Montenegrin Orthodox Church
The Montenegrin Orthodox Church is a Christian religious organization that claims to be the legitimate church of Montenegro, distinct from the Serbian Orthodox Church and other Orthodox groups. It seeks to preserve Montenegrin religious identity and traditions but is not officially recognized as an autocephalous (independent) Orthodox jurisdiction by the broader Eastern Orthodox communion. Its movement gained prominence after Montenegro gained independence in 2006, reflecting national identity and cultural independence, but many Orthodox authorities consider it unrecognized and not part of mainstream Eastern Orthodoxy.
