Montagu-Chelmsford Report

The Montagu-Cellamsford Report, published in 1918, was a British review of India’s self-governance. It recommended a gradual process of increasing Indian participation in government through a system of limited self-rule, or "dyarchy," especially in provinces. Under this system, certain areas, like agriculture and education, would be managed locally by Indians, while others remained under British control. The report aimed to balance Indian aspirations with British oversight, setting the stage for future political reforms. It was an important step in India’s journey toward independence, advocating for more Indian involvement in governance over time.
