Monotheletism

Monotheletism is a Christological belief that, while recognizing Jesus as both divine and human, holds that he has only one overriding divine will, rather than two separate wills—one divine and one human. This view aimed to affirm Jesus’s unity with God while addressing conflicts over his nature. It was considered a compromise between fully divine and fully human wills, but it was eventually deemed heretical because it downplayed the genuine human aspect of Jesus’s actions and decisions. Monotheletism played a significant role in theological debates during the early centuries of Christianity.
