Mongol Derby
The Mongol Derby is an ultramarathon horse race spanning approximately 1,000 kilometers across Mongolia’s rugged steppes. Riders navigate a complex route on semi-wild Mongolian horses, changing mounts at designated post stations. It tests endurance, horsemanship, navigation skills, and resilience, simulating the traditional Mongolian postal relay system used by couriers in the 13th century. Participants often face harsh weather, challenging terrain, and limited support, making it one of the longest and most demanding equestrian events in the world.
