Monge's Disease
Monge’s disease, also known as primary lateral sclerosis, is a rare neurological disorder that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. These neurons control voluntary muscle movements, so their degeneration leads to gradual muscle weakness, stiffness, and difficulty with movement and coordination. Unlike some neurological diseases that involve multiple parts of the nervous system, Monge’s primarily targets the upper motor neurons, resulting in symptoms that tend to start in the arms and legs and progress over time. The exact cause is unknown, and it differs from more common motor neuron diseases like ALS.
