The Monastery of Tibhirine was a monastery in Algeria, inhabited by French Trappist monks dedicated to prayer, community life, and helping local people. Sadly, in 1996, during Algeria’s civil conflict, seven monks were kidnapped and killed, highlighting the risks faced by those committed to peace. The monastery is remembered for its message of harmony, faith, and sacrifice. It gained international attention through the film “Of Gods and Men,” emphasizing the monks’ compassionate presence amidst violence.
