Monarchies

A monarchy is a form of government where a single individual, called a monarch, rules as the head of state, often based on hereditary succession. Monarchies can be absolute, where the ruler has broad powers, or constitutional, where their authority is limited by laws or a constitution, sharing power with elected bodies. Historically, monarchies have been prominent in shaping nations and cultures, serving as symbols of continuity and tradition. Today, many countries maintain constitutional monarchies, combining monarchic heritage with democratic governance, while absolute monarchies are rarer.
