Moment
In mechanics, a moment refers to the turning effect produced by a force applied at some distance from a pivot point or axis. It is often called torque. Think of using a wrench to loosen a bolt: the force you apply creates a moment that causes the bolt to rotate. The size of this moment depends on the strength of the force and how far it acts from the pivot point. Moments are important for understanding how objects rotate or stay balanced when forces are applied, helping engineers design stable structures and mechanical systems.
