MoM Implants
MoM (Metal-on-Metal) implants are a type of joint replacement, commonly used for hip surgeries, where both the ball and socket parts are made from durable metal alloys. They are designed to provide long-lasting durability and stability. However, they can sometimes release tiny metal particles into the body as the metal surfaces rub against each other during movement. This can lead to complications like metal ion build-up, tissue irritation, or implant wear. Due to these concerns, MoM implants are less common now, with surgeons often favoring alternative materials like ceramic or plastic for joint replacements.
