Mohamed Farah Aidid was a Somali military leader and prominent political figure during the Somali Civil War in the early 1990s. He became known for his powerful faction, the United Somali Congress (USC), and played a key role in the conflict that erupted after the collapse of the Somali government in 1991. Aidid opposed rival groups, leading to violent clashes and widespread chaos in Somalia. His leadership was marked by efforts to control territory and resources, but he also became infamous for human rights abuses. Aidid remained a significant figure in Somali politics until his death in 1996.
