Mohamed Atta was an Egyptian-born terrorist who played a central role in planning and executing the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. He was the ringleader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda's hijacking of American airplanes, which targeted the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon near Washington, D.C. Atta coordinated the hijackings and was on one of the planes that crashed into the North Tower. His actions led to nearly 3,000 deaths and prompted significant changes in global security policies.
