Modern German history
Modern German history spans from the 19th century, marked by unification under Prussia in 1871, to two World Wars that devastated the nation. After WWII, Germany was divided into East (communist) and West (democratic), leading to Cold War tensions. The Berlin Wall symbolized this split until 1989, when it fell, reuniting Germany. Since then, Germany has become a leading European economy and a member of the European Union. Its history reflects a journey from empire and conflict to reunification, democracy, and regional leadership.
