Modal Scale
A modal scale is a type of musical scale derived from the ancient Greek modes or the different ways of organizing the seven notes within an octave. Unlike the major or minor scales, each mode has a unique pattern of intervals (the gaps between notes), giving it distinct emotional qualities. For example, the Dorian mode has a minor feel with a bright twist, while the Phrygian mode sounds more exotic. Modal scales are often used to evoke specific moods or atmospheres in music, and they form the foundation for various musical styles across different cultures.
