MND (Motor Neuron Disease)
Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a group of neurological conditions that cause gradual degeneration of motor neurons, the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. As these neurons deteriorate, signals from the brain and spinal cord can’t reach muscles effectively, leading to weakness, loss of muscle mass, and difficulty with movement, speech, swallowing, and breathing. MND is progressive and currently has no cure, but skilled management can help improve quality of life. The most common form is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It typically affects adults and progresses differently in each individual.
