MKO (Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization)
The Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), also known as MEK, is an Iranian exile group founded in the 1960s that opposes the Iranian government. Initially formed as a revolutionary movement inspired by Marxism and Islam, it engaged in armed resistance against Iran’s regime, including acts of violence. Over time, the MKO shifted toward political activism and gained support from some Western countries, notably during the Iraq-Iran war. However, it has been controversial due to allegations of past human rights abuses and terrorist activities. Today, the MKO primarily advocates for regime change in Iran and operates mainly from abroad.
