Miyawaki Method

The Miyawaki Method is a technique for creating dense, native forests quickly on degraded land. It involves planting a mix of native trees, shrubs, and ground cover species closely together, mimicking natural forest layers. This rapid planting accelerates ecological succession, promoting biodiversity, soil health, and carbon sequestration. Developed by botanist Akira Miyawaki, the method relies on selecting local species suited to the site and ensuring dense planting to outcompete weeds. Over time, these mini-forests develop into mature, self-sustaining ecosystems that restore environmental balance and provide habitats for wildlife.
