Mixteco language
Mixteco is an indigenous language spoken primarily in Mexico’s Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Puebla states. It belongs to the Mixtecan branch of the Oto-Manguean language family, featuring complex tonal patterns and a rich system of noun classifiers. Mixteco has multiple dialects, often quite distinct from one another, reflecting diverse local communities. It remains vital for cultural identity and daily communication among indigenous people, though many speakers also use Spanish. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and revitalize the language through education and cultural initiatives.
