Mixtec-Zapotec culture
The Mixtec-Zapotec cultures are two closely related indigenous civilizations from the region now known as Oaxaca, Mexico. They flourished before the Spanish arrived, creating rich artistic traditions, complex social hierarchies, and advanced urban centers like Monte Albán. Known for their impressive pottery, murals, and codices, they developed sophisticated writing systems and astronomy. While distinct, their cultures exchanged ideas and practices, shaping the history of southern Mexico. Today, Mixtec and Zapotec descendants maintain their languages, traditions, and cultural identity, contributing to the diverse Indigenous heritage of the region.
