Mitsuye Endo

Mitsuye Endo was a Japanese-American woman who was detained by the U.S. government during World War II because of her Japanese ancestry. She challenged her detention legally, arguing it was unconstitutional to imprison her without due process. Her case, *Korematsu v. United States*, reached the Supreme Court, which controversially upheld the detention policies at the time. However, in her case specifically, the Court eventually ruled that her detention was unlawful, asserting that citizens could not be held without fair trials. Endo’s case became a significant step toward ending the internment of Japanese Americans and highlighted issues of civil rights and government overreach during wartime.
