mitigation and adaptation

Mitigation involves taking actions to reduce or prevent the causes of climate change, such as decreasing greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy or energy efficiency. Adaptation focuses on adjusting our ways of living and infrastructure to cope with the effects of already occurring or expected climate changes, like building seawalls against rising sea levels or changing agricultural practices. Both strategies aim to manage climate impacts: mitigation addresses the problem’s root, while adaptation manages its consequences.
